Still experimenting with Semagic, with incomplete success
I managed to import my userpics to Dreamwidth - hooray! I could have survived with six icons until the end of April, but I really didn't want to have to try. I haven't had much luck importing my LJ entries, but hopefully that will knot itself out. I'll keep trying, at any rate. Helpful Dreamwidth sites include Dreamwidth Beta Helper to temporarily convert your account to a paid account (until the beta period finishes) and State of the Journal Import. (These links from [info]musesfool, with thanks.)

I got two invite codes and handed one to [info]lilacsigil and one to the first person who asked for one in my last post. If by chance I get more, and you'd like one, let me know. I can't promise that more will be forthcoming, though, so don't rely on me as your only source. Sign up for an OpenID, or troll dw_news . They're slowly increasing the load on the servers, so expect more invites and possibly more invite codes going out to existing accounts.

And I'm settling down with Semagic, it's not actually too hard to use, just a bit peculiar to set up. (Or maybe I'm just being stupidly right-brained about it all. I do walk into walls a lot, too.)

Enough DW news. #amazonfail pretty much dominated my weekend. I'm really upset by the way they've handled the affair. No matter what the actual cause of the supposed glitch that stripped sales rank from LGBTQ books and hid them from searches, covering their collective ass is the worst possible thing that management at Amazon could have done. I own a business, and 'own' is the operative word. You own the business, you stand up and own the fail as well, even on the weekend, even during a holiday weekend. Transparency and swift action are both key to keeping customers. I am sad, because where I live, Amazon is the best place for me to buy books - my rural area is poorly served by bookstores, and online shopping for books in Australia doesn't come close to the range and searchability of Amazon.

Zombie parrot update: They went away, but only so we could say, in eerie voices at five in the morning, "They're baaaaaaaack!" *sighs* Just when I was getting used to sleeping past dawn, too.

Enough depressing news! I have a tardis_gen fic of my very own! Elphame Station, which is Eight and Sally Sparrow traipsing through a Gaimanesque London-Below. Yay!

And Planet of the Dead! That's why the aristocracy survived... )

Music post! British trip-hop, trance and house
For ion_bond and for anyone else who has an interest, here's some Faithless, Massive Attack, Tricky and Portishead. Pretty much the sound track of the late nineties for me, from the day that lilacsigil came back from her year in Japan with the first Portishead album. (This is why that slow unsteady trip-hop beat always makes me unspeakably happy.)

A little taste of the Bristol sound )

    Dreamwidth testing post
By the glory of random name drawing, I got a Dreamwidth invite this morning! (I see from my flist that a whole bunch of them went out.) I'm really excited about Dreamwidth - that fans could get together and create a place that starts out as a welcome home for fanworks is a really good thing. I love LJ and don't want to leave. I'm going to be posting in both places for the time being, and if, as I suspect may happen in the future, LJ becomes the kind of place where fandom is no longer welcome, well, then I'll have made another home.

Hopefully, if I've set Semagic up properly, this will be going to my LJ, my IJ, and what I suppose I should refer to as my DW, though that becomes confusing, when one is involved in Doctor Who fandom. Which reminds me, posting has started on [info]tardis_gen (I wonder how that coding will go, using Semagic?). Go, check out some awesome fic.

    *chews nails and hits post*

ETA: Semagic apparently doesn't do that coding thing across journals. Okay.

I'm using semagic... I wonder what will happen.
I've survived my horror run at work, though I think that and Boldthrough broke my brain. I've been very, very quiet, typing a lot of comments up, then deleting them because they sounded stupid.

Also, I took a pinch hit at the start of my horror run at work, which was phenomenally stupid, but I've written it now. Would anyone be interested in an Ameripick of a Dr Who/House MD crossover? It's gen, about 3,300 words, and I've had it beta-read (not that I'd say no to anything else that you picked up), but I don't feel confident about my Ameri-speak.

Let me know, and I can mail it on. *slinks away to the quiet corner*

    Current Mood: nervous
